Marriage Registration in Portugal

After you have registered your birth in Portugal the next step is to get your Marriage registered there. This is needed if you want your children to be able to apply for Portuguese Nationality. Only after your Marriage is registered there is this possible.

The following documents are needed.

1. Birth Certificate of your spouse (who is / is not registered in Portugal)
2. Your Marriage Certificate from Sub – Register or Civil Registry.
3. Copy of your Assento do Nascimento ( Registration Certificate of Birth)
4. Indian Identification Document of both, husband and wife.

    Good morning,
    I had a civil marriage in portugal and has my certificate. However now I am renewing my indian passport and wish to add mu wifes name to my passport but the passport office is insisting that I get the marriage certificate attested by Indian Embassy. Howevery according to Indian Embassy Indian embaIndia is a member of the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961, abolishing the requirement of legalization of foreign public documents. Apostille is acceptable in 98 member-countries of the Convention. However passport office is insisting that I get the document attested by indian embassy. Can you please guide me as my passport is now stuck in policy and the officer is refusing to even listen to me.

    Hi,

    Need help please,

    I have given my marriage certificate to agent of Goa to register with Portuguese embassy but
    Marriage certificated is registered wrong. My age is given to my wife & wife's age is given to me.
    Now agent is asking more money to correct it all thou that was his mistake.

    My father's birth is registered in portugal but marriage was not registered.Meanwhile, my mother died in 2000. Can marriage be still registered and what documents are required ?

    i am not able to trace my fathers birth certificate as document for my mother marriage registrar after her BI. i have his school bonefide certificate on that Date of birth is mention, and his death certificate also and i am hindu in religion so not having church documents

    Hi my husband will apply for his portuguese passport soon and his status is married as of 2014..at that time when he registered his portuguese i.d he was single is there any problem with that in getting his portuguese passport?another thing is he's married to me holding a Philippines passport..what should we do to registered our marriage in Portugal..is there any problem because eventhough he got his portuguese i.d he used to travel alot using his indian passprt and we had our marriage bow in Goa,India.Are there penalties for using his indian passport eventhough he already registered and got his portuguese i.d?What we will do to register our marriage to Portugal as if I'm a Philippines citizen and he's an indian and our marriage took in Goa,India..what are the papers need to have..please help us..appreciated your help and Godbless you.

    In India, Marriages can be registered either under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 or under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. It is a legal proof you are married and the most vital document of a marriage. In 2006, the Supreme Court made it compulsory to register the marriage for the women protection.
